Located in the heart of Padstow, Padstow Townhouse is a six-suite boutique hotel set within a restored 18th-century Georgian property. Part of the Ainsworth Collection, the townhouse sits just moments from the Michelin-starred Paul Ainsworth at No6.
Owners Paul Ainsworth and Emma Ainsworth worked closely with Interior Design Director Eve Cullen-Cornes to create a luxury, home-from-home experience. The vision focused on delivering something distinctive, personal and memorable for every guest.
The design concept draws inspiration from Great British Menu, where Paul Ainsworth won the dessert course with his “Taste of the Fairground”.
This idea formed the foundation of the interior scheme. Each of the six suites takes its name from a nostalgic sweet: Marshmallow, Popcorn, Rhubarb & Custard, Toffee Apple, Honeycomb, and Bonbon.
Eve Cullen-Cornes developed a unique storytelling approach for each room. She created a distinct character behind every suite, allowing the design, furniture and artwork to reflect an imagined personality. This method ensured that no two rooms feel the same.
Each suite delivers a different atmosphere through colour, texture and detail.
The Toffee Apple suite uses warm caramel tones and botanical influences, with carefully restored furniture and layered artwork.
The Rhubarb & Custard suite introduces bold contrasts, combining red and orange velvets with rich textures to reflect the sweet’s balance of sharp and sweet flavours.
The Bonbon suite takes on a more refined identity, featuring classic patterns such as ‘Wimbledon Stripe’ wallpaper from Cole & Son, alongside oxblood leather seating and vintage sporting references.
Across all suites, the design combines luxurious materials with playful references, creating spaces that feel both indulgent and personal.
From the moment guests arrive, the townhouse creates a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The entrance hall sets the tone with bold colour, statement wallpaper and bespoke furniture pieces.
The design removes traditional barriers often found in hotels. There is no formal reception desk, allowing for a more personal and welcoming interaction between guests and staff.
A central pantry provides a domestic-style space where guests can help themselves to a selection of sweet and savoury treats. This feature reinforces the “home-from-home” concept and enhances the overall experience.
Attention to detail defines every part of the townhouse. Bespoke furniture appears throughout the property, alongside carefully sourced vintage pieces and custom-made joinery.
Layered materials, rich fabrics and curated accessories create depth and personality in each space. Subtle references to the “sweet” theme appear throughout, without overwhelming the design.
The result is a collection of interiors that feel both playful and refined.
