Chalk Free house – Chelsea

Chalk Freehouse is the new pub-bistro concept from the Tom Kerridge Group, located just off the King’s Road in Chelsea. The venue, formerly The Butcher’s Tap and Grill, has been reimagined under the leadership of acclaimed chef Tom De Keyser, who brings over 12 years of experience alongside Tom Kerridge to his first solo project.

JCA Consulting’s Eve Cullen-Cornes led the interior design for the light refurbishment, delivering a space that balances the classic character of a traditional pub with refined, contemporary touches. The design provides a warm and inviting atmosphere for everyday dining, private events, and intimate client gatherings, all while complementing the venue’s culinary identity.

Work Involved

  • Conducting interior design and space planning for the full refurbishment of the venue.
  • Designing a private dining room that seats up to 10 guests, creating an exclusive, intimate environment.
  • Selecting and integrating bespoke materials and finishes, including brass tiling, curated artwork, and subtle material transitions throughout the space.
  • Developing a calm and considered interior palette that enhances the dining experience without competing with the culinary presentation.
  • Coordinating with the Tom Kerridge Group and Head Chef Tom De Keyser to ensure the design reflected the brand’s identity and supported the operational needs of a busy pub-bistro.
  • Integrating modern lighting, furniture, and layout solutions within the heritage-inspired structure.
  • Balancing the preservation of existing character elements with contemporary design interventions to create a cohesive and welcoming environment.

The completed Chalk Freehouse interiors combine heritage charm with modern refinement, creating a stylish, flexible environment that supports both everyday hospitality and private dining experiences.

The private dining room offers a sophisticated backdrop for business lunches, client dinners, or special occasions, seating up to 10 guests in a warm, intimate setting. Materials, finishes, and bespoke features such as brass tiling and curated artwork reinforce the venue’s premium identity, while subtle design interventions create a calm and inviting atmosphere that enhances the food and hospitality experience.

JCA Consulting’s interior design work demonstrates how thoughtful, design-led interventions can transform a traditional pub space into a contemporary, character-rich hospitality destination that meets both operational and experiential needs.
