JCA Consulting has been appointed by Noviniti as Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveyor for the construction of a new main entrance at Lister Hospital, Stevenage. The project is being delivered for the East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust.
Alongside the new entrance, we are also appointed to deliver the refurbishment of the reception entrance corridor. This phase will begin once the main entrance works are complete.
The Principal Contractor for the main entrance is Goldbeck Construction Limited.
Work began on 1 September 2025 and is scheduled to complete in summer 2026.
The new entrance will be built in the existing hospital courtyard. It will connect directly to the hospital and the multi-storey car park.
The ground floor will create a modern, welcoming entrance with:
Auto-sliding doors and a draught lobby
A new main entrance corridor
Public toilets and baby-changing facilities
Access to the upper floors via stair cores and lift
Two large retail units
Following completion, specialist fit-out contractors will transform the retail units into a Costa Coffee and a Co-op Food store.
Two upper levels will provide open-plan office accommodation. The layout includes meeting rooms, welfare areas, and an executive suite with cellular offices and a boardroom.
The design incorporates PV solar panels to reduce energy demand. A central lightwell will bring natural daylight into the building.
Externally, the landscaped plaza will provide improved access routes, space for market stalls, and areas for patients, visitors, and staff to relax.
The building will sit on piled foundations with a ground-bearing slab and insulation. It will feature a concrete frame, walls and floors, and high-performance rainscreen cladding.

Aluminium windows with vents
Double sliding glazed doors
Single ply roofing membrane
Internal steel partition walls
Hardwood veneered doors
Vinyl and carpet flooring depending on location
Suspended ceilings in office and welfare areas
This project will significantly improve the arrival experience at Lister Hospital. It will provide modern facilities, sustainable design, and a welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
