JCA Consulting is a growing independent building and cost consultancy with a strong presence across the UK. We work with a diverse range of clients across the private and public sectors, providing Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, Project Management, Employer’s Agent and Contract Administration services.

Our Quantity Surveying team has an established pipeline of current and forthcoming projects, including healthcare, residential, new-build and conversion schemes, with typical project values ranging from approximately £1m to £20m.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced MRICS Senior Quantity Surveyor in Staffordshire to join our Quantity Surveying team.

This is a senior client-facing role offering involvement across both pre- and post-contract services and the opportunity to work across Quantity Surveying, Employer’s Agent, Contract Administration and Project Management roles.

The successful candidate will work directly with clients, developers, contractors and consultant teams, taking responsibility for the commercial and successful delivery of projects from inception through to completion.

We are looking for someone who wants to do more than simply move into another Senior QS position.

For the right candidate, there is a clear pathway towards Associate Director, with the potential to progress within 12 months of joining JCA.

Key Responsibilities

The role will include:

Managing project budgets and preparing detailed cost plans from inception through to completion.
Preparing feasibility studies and cost estimates for proposed developments.
Providing pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying services.
Preparing Employer’s Requirements and other tender and procurement documentation.
Advising clients on appropriate procurement strategies.
Managing tender processes and providing tender analysis and recommendations.
Working with JCT forms of contract.
Undertaking Employer’s Agent and Contract Administrator roles.
Providing Project Management services where required.
Managing valuations, variations and payment recommendations throughout the construction period.
Monitoring project expenditure and providing regular cost reporting to clients.
Undertaking value engineering and providing strategic cost advice.
Managing financial risk and maintaining commercial control throughout the project lifecycle.
Negotiating and agreeing final accounts.
Working directly with private developers and other key clients.
Managing projects and consultant teams with an appropriate level of autonomy.
Developing and maintaining strong client relationships.
Supporting the continued development and growth of JCA’s Quantity Surveying service.

Building and residential conversions
Higher-Risk Buildings
Private development

What We Are Looking For

MRICS qualification is essential for this position.

The successful candidate will also have:

Significant experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a consultancy environment.
Experience operating at Senior Quantity Surveyor level.
Strong pre- and post-contract experience.
Experience working with private developers.
Strong cost planning and cost management capability.
Experience preparing Employer’s Requirements.
Good working knowledge and practical experience of JCT contracts.
Experience undertaking Employer’s Agent and/or Contract Administrator roles.
Experience of Project Management would be advantageous.
Strong commercial awareness.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
The ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
The confidence to work independently and lead projects and consultant teams.
A proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach.
Experience within healthcare, residential development, new-build, conversions and/or Higher-Risk Buildings would be particularly beneficial.
