MAW Consulting has issued the Practical Completion Statement for the construction of the Queen Alexandra Hospital car park in Portsmouth. The new 241-space multi-storey car park was developed by Noviniti, with Ballast Needham Parking appointed under a JCT Design and Build Contract to construct the building.
The development includes a link bridge that provides escape facilities from the first floor of an adjacent ward block through the car park. In addition, terracotta rainscreen cladding to the stair cores complements the fenestration of the existing hospital.
The steel and concrete structure occupies approximately two-thirds of an existing ground-level car park.
The works included piled foundations, in situ concrete retaining walls, a galvanised structural steel frame, precast concrete decks, precast concrete wall and stair units forming three cores, cast-iron rainwater pipes, drainage and attenuation. The project also included electrical and sprinkler installations, together with an underground tank.
Terracotta rainscreen cladding to the stair cores complements the existing hospital, while mesh and timber-effect panels form the remainder of the cladding. The design also incorporated specific measures to prevent vehicle headlights from shining through the cladding.
JCA Consulting provided Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveying services for the £7.90 million Queen Alexandra Hospital car park development. Our team supported the project through to Practical Completion, helping to deliver this significant addition to the hospital estate.
