Located in the coastal village of Rock, Cornwall, The Mariners overlooks the beautiful Camel Estuary. The pub has served the local community and visitors since the mid-1990s and remains a well-known destination in the area.
Chefs Paul Ainsworth and Emma Ainsworth reopened The Mariners after taking on the lease in partnership with Sharp's Brewery. Their vision focused on restoring the pub as a welcoming destination for both locals and holidaymakers while celebrating the best of Cornish food and drink.
Interior design for the project was developed with designer Eve Cullen-Cornes, bringing a fresh yet respectful approach to the space.
The redesign focused on creating a classic pub atmosphere while improving comfort and flow throughout the building. The team introduced new oak panelling to reinforce the traditional character of the interior and to create warmth within the dining spaces.
New bar areas were installed on both floors, allowing guests to enjoy drinks while taking in the views across the Camel Estuary. The design balances heritage elements with a relaxed coastal feel, creating a pub environment that feels both timeless and contemporary.
The result is a space that feels welcoming from the moment guests walk through the door.
The Mariners holds special meaning for Paul Ainsworth, who spent much of his childhood visiting Cornish pubs with his family. That sense of nostalgia shaped the vision for the project.
Working alongside the design team, Paul and Emma created a space that celebrates the tradition of the British pub while offering a high-quality dining experience.
With its welcoming interior, strong local connections and views across the Camel Estuary, The Mariners continues its role as a beloved Cornish gathering place.
