The former Argos store in Worthing was transformed into the first Italian concept SCS store since Poltronesofa’s acquisition of the brand. The project included a full internal fit-out, installation of a new mezzanine floor, and updated external signage, creating a contemporary retail environment that reflects the Italian-inspired design ethos.

JCA Consulting were appointed to provide full project oversight, delivering building surveying, project management, and contract administration services from inception to completion. Our architectural technologist worked closely with the SCS/Poltronesofa design team to develop proposed drawings and ensure that the works met brand standards while remaining practical and compliant with construction requirements.

Work Involved

• Checking and coordinating landlord enabling works prior to refurbishment.
• Producing detailed existing and proposed drawings in line with SCS/Poltronesofa specifications.
• Acting as Building Surveyors, Project Manager, and Contract Administrator throughout the project, under a JCT contract.
• Managing the installation of a new mezzanine floor, including piling works.
• Overseeing the complete internal fit-out, including new HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Coordinating decoration, floor finishes, wall and ceiling alterations, and suspended ceilings.
• Administering the construction contract, managing on-site works, and ensuring quality control.
• Project sign-off and final inspection, confirming completion in line with client requirements.

The completed store delivers a striking Italian concept retail environment, combining functional layouts with high-quality finishes. The new mezzanine maximises retail space, while the full fit-out, upgraded services, and branding create a modern, welcoming environment for customers.
