Entwistle Group sought to relocate their printing business from multiple city-centre locations to a single, more efficient site. They identified a former Aldi store in Openshaw as suitable, but the building required significant adaptation to meet their operational and office space requirements.
The ground floor was ideal for the printing operations but lacked sufficient space for office, design, and administrative functions. JCA Consulting designed and installed a new first floor within an existing roof void, adding 470 sq metres of usable floor space. To address the lack of natural light, a consequence of the building’s previous use, we removed the front façade and installed a full-height glazed gable, creating an open, bright environment for staff and customers. 3D CAD visualisations were used to communicate the design intent to both the client and the local planning authority.
Work Involved:
The refurbishment successfully consolidated Entwistle Group’s operations under one roof, providing modern, functional office and production space. The bold addition of a glazed front gable dramatically improved natural light and ambience, enhancing staff and customer experience.
This project demonstrates JCA’s ability to combine innovative design solutions with meticulous project management to transform challenging existing structures into highly functional, visually appealing workplaces.
