Following the £140 million acquisition of the Defence Support Group (DSG), Babcock International were required to bid for a new £900 million Ministry of Defence contract to manage and maintain the army’s land vehicle support facilities.

To prepare a competitive and accurate bid, Babcock needed full and up-to-date information on the condition and infrastructure of over 160 buildings across multiple MoD sites — all within just six months. Much of the existing documentation had become outdated due to site changes, and a full portfolio condition survey was required.

JCA Consulting were appointed to deliver comprehensive surveys, CAD drawings, and costed remedial works schedules, ensuring Babcock had the accurate building data they needed.

Work Involved:

• Site inspections at eight MoD locations, covering 160 buildings.
• Systematic condition surveys by JCA surveyors, supported by office-based CAD technicians producing detailed drawings.
• Documentation of defects with associated budget costs for remedial repairs.
• Inclusion of repair schedules considering whole-life costs and sustainability factors.
• Recording of mechanical and electrical systems, fire safety equipment, and energy efficiency opportunities.
• Delivery of a complete asset information pack to support bid preparation and long-term estate management.

JCA supplied Babcock with a comprehensive dataset covering every building across the estate, providing greater insight than originally expected. This included condition reports, repair schedules, CAD drawings, and M&E asset information.

The surveys freed up Babcock’s internal resources to focus on their bid submission, with confidence that the technical building data was accurate, detailed, and professionally managed.

Armed with this information, Babcock successfully secured the £900 million DSG contract, a strategically important win for the business.
