NORTHERN GATEWAY- PUMPING STATION WET WELL NEARS COMPLETION

JCA Consulting provided Project Management, Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveying services on behalf of Pochin Goodman at Northern Gateway Garden City Deeside.

Located on the former airfield site, the major infrastructure project created development plots for new residential and industrial uses. The wider development included land for the construction of more than 700 new homes.

Phase 1 involved the delivery of significant new infrastructure across the site. The works included approximately 800 metres of new spine road, together with the associated drainage and utility infrastructure required to support the future development plots.

The site’s ground conditions also presented an interesting engineering challenge. Due to the exceptionally flat nature of the land, the foul water drainage strategy required a pumped solution rather than relying on gravity.

As part of the infrastructure works, contractor PP O’Connor constructed a substantial nine-metre-diameter pumping station wet well to serve the development. In addition, the project involved significant earthworks across the former airfield site.

Once the first phase of infrastructure works progressed sufficiently, the scheme enabled the release of residential plots to housing developers for the construction of more than 700 new homes.
